The regional councilor for health Mario Nieddu face to face with the directors of the emergency rooms of the various hospitals in Sardinia.
«Today's meeting - explains Nieddu - was a useful opportunity to take stock of the critical issues and evaluate together the structural actions to be put in place to respond to a system emergency which, as also emerged during the discussion, it does not involve only Sardinia but all of Italy».
"The chronic shortage of emergency specialists, the result of short-sighted choices of the past, forces us today to find new ways to make an increasingly less attractive system more efficient," adds the commissioner. "Suffice it to say that current estimates tell us that about five thousand doctors are missing in emergency rooms throughout Italy ".
"But we will continue to work with those on the front lines in our hospitals to share solutions with a view to an internal reorganization that allows us to intervene on various aspects: from waiting times, with the reduction of patient discomfort, to greater appropriateness of accesses and enhancement of emergency room personnel. We also hope that our proposal made at national level to include emergency doctors among the categories of strenuous jobs will be accepted as soon as possible with the aim of aiming for the recognition of incentives that bring health professionals closer to the profession in the emergency room " , concludes the exponent of the Giunta.
