Brutal assault against a prison officer in the Isili prison.

A prisoner with mental health problems first kicked and punched a policeman, then strangled him. It really could have ended in tragedy, without the providential intervention of the inspector present and other men.

The episode was denounced by the general secretary of the Uil Pa Sardinia Penitentiary Police Michele Cireddu.

The inmate's fury was unleashed because he had to take therapy and didn't want to wait his turn in front of the infirmary. The supervisor tried to calm him down, but he was suddenly attacked with unprecedented violence.

When the other officers managed to stop the attack, the policeman was breathing heavily due to the strangulation: he suffered wounds in various parts of his body and his ear was bleeding. Rushed to the hospital, he is still under observation.

«Today in the Institute of Isili a tragedy did not take place only for a few moments because if the staff present in the Institute had not heard the desperate screams, it could have arrived too late. We still don't have certain information on the conditions of the attacked policeman, at the time he was rushed to hospital he was conscious but in extreme pain and breathing with difficulty," explains Cireddu.

The trade unionist once again denounces an "extremely serious" situation, a wave of violence "which must be stopped before even more serious tragedies occur. We continue to denounce the shame of the state that is consumed daily in the penitentiary institutions of the region. We also continue to reiterate that the situation has now precipitated dramatically ».

Another serious episode was also reported today in the Uta prison , where a prisoner tried to set fire to his cell and attacked the officers who rushed to take away his lighter.
