The interrogations of the 31 people arrested by the ROS carabinieri as part of the "Monte Nuovo" investigation into the alleged existence in Sardinia of a mafia association with links between crime, politicians and institutions ended today.
The last to be heard by investigating judge Michele Contini, with prosecutors Emanuele Secci and Rossana Allieri, was Paolo Sale, a 44-year-old farmer from Orgo who escaped the raid on 27 September and then handed himself over to the carabinieri.
Assisted by the lawyer Rinaldo Lai, the man made use of the right not to answer, as did almost all the suspects questioned last week. According to the prosecution, Sale played a role as Mesina's supporter. He is attributed with active collaboration during the movements of the former Scarlet Pimpernel from the municipality of Bono to that of Desulo, on 16 September 2021, «keeping in contact with the members of the Gioi family of Desulo, to whom the fugitive had been entrusted », we read in a passage of the 407 pages of the ordinance.
We are now waiting for the hearing to be set at the Cagliari Review Court to which the lawyers of the former councilor Gabriella Murgia and the head physician Tomaso Cocco have addressed, who have asked for the release of their clients or an attenuation of the precautionary measure.
