Monserrato is celebrating another centenarian: Emilia Atzeni Cruccu has blown out 104 candles. After the passing of Antonio Brundu, which occurred a month ago at 106 years old, she is now the oldest person living in the town in the Cagliari hinterland . A true Monserratina, she was born on September 6, 1920. She is the mother of three children, Antonello, Carlo and Rossano, grandmother of three grandchildren, Serena Matteo and Beatrice and also has a great-granddaughter, Gaia.

Last Friday, her birthday, she celebrated surrounded by her family. Also present for the occasion was Don Nicola Ruggeri, parish priest of the church of the Santissimo Redentore, who visits her every month for a moment of prayer and communion.

Unable to be present for institutional reasons, Mayor Tomaso Locci went to visit her yesterday . Grandma Emilia wore the tricolor sash to pose for a photo with the mayor. "At first she tried to take it off, then we convinced her and so we took the photos," says her daughter-in-law Loredana Demontis, "it's nice to read the many messages of good wishes that arrive on Facebook from the entire Monserratina community." The mayor adds: " She's still lively, she didn't want to let me go and she held my hand. Many more happy returns to our grandma ."
