For Uil it is an "unholy decision that condemns the Institute to a very rapid closure. Despite the announcement by the Head of the Department of Juvenile Justice Antonio Sangermano and the Undersecretary of Justice Andrea Ostellari that during the last meeting with the national trade union representatives they had averted the sending of minor prisoners due to the unsuitability of the structure, it seems to have arrived suddenly the sensational counter-decision. In fact, it seems that minor prisoners will still be assigned, even if from the point of view of safety and space the structure has not been deemed suitable and makes it impossible to comply with the regulations that regulate life in prison for minors, which are radically different compared to adult prisoners ».

«The commission sent by the Department itself was categorical: “The Lanusei institution is not suitable for minors from all points of view”, consequently for us this forcing means that the Penitentiary Administration has decided to condemn San Daniele to the closure disguised as an unlikely conversion to an institution for minors", as announced by the general secretary of Sardinia of the Uil Pa Penitentiary Police Michele Cireddu who adds: "We believe that this sudden change represents an unfortunate decision towards the minor prisoners forced to be assigned in a structure not suitable for them, clearly highlighting the contradictions of an administration which, in our opinion, is inexorably condemning the Lanusei prison to closure. On the peninsula, the prisoners that the Department of Juvenile Justice is preparing to send have destroyed entire detention sections, have carried out daring escapes and attacks against the operators, consequently it seems they have decided in the name of temporariness, to sacrifice a structure that does not it would hold for more than a few days. For us it is an announced closure."
