Orazio Schillaci, the Minister of Health, was the guest of honor at the inauguration of the 463rd academic year of the University of Sassari. Strictly following the ceremonial, after the entrance of the academic procession into the great hall to the notes of the university anthem "Gaudeamus igitur", the national anthem sung by tenor Francesco Demuro, and the institutional greetings of the mayor of Sassari, Giuseppe Mascia, and the assessor of the Sardinia Region, Franco Cuccureddu, the rector, Gavino Mariotti, gave the inaugural report, summarizing as much as possible a document of fourteen pages with which he retraced a year of activities carried out by the various branches of the University of Sassari, illustrated the physiognomy of his university and mentioned future programs.
Without polemical intent, the rector Mariotti focused on the programming chapter , necessarily conditioned by the allocations of the Fund for ordinary financing of universities (Ffo), which at a national level has seen an availability of 173 million euros this year, two less than the previous year: «Our University has been assigned a share of Ffo (basic share, bonus, equalization intervention and extraordinary plans) equal to 74,618,425 euros, with a reduction of 3.10% compared to the previous year. This reduction had to be taken into account for the estimate of the Ffo in the 2025 programming phase».
"Over the course of this year," Mariotti said, " our University has intensified its commitment to the dissemination of knowledge and innovation, consolidating collaborations with organizations, businesses and institutions . These synergies demonstrate the active role of the University as a driver of development, capable of interpreting and guiding change through knowledge and research." After the rector's report, the president of the student council, Antonio Bilotta, and Paola Murru, representing the technical, administrative and library staff, took turns speaking. Then it was the minister's turn.
"The strength of the Italian healthcare system is the quality of the doctors, nurses and all the operators who work every day within the national healthcare system," said Schillaci. Who then addressed the medical students directly: " We want you to be able to make the most of your skills in Italy and perhaps in your own territory at the end of your studies . To support this rooting and avoid the flight of our brightest young people abroad, we are committed on several fronts, so that your future profession is more attractive in Italy and in particular young people are more motivated to approach certain disciplines."
Schillaci, in his speech in Sassari, also announced that «already for the 2025-2026 academic year we have planned a 5% increase in the fixed part of the economic treatment for all specializations and a 50% increase in the variable part for others that are less attractive , such as emergency-urgency, pathological anatomy, palliative care and radiotherapy».
