The community of Marrubiu mourns the passing of Egidio Loi , a figure of great political and social importance who dedicated much of his life to the common good. Born in Marrubiu on October 23, 1945, Loi worked for the Italian Post Office, while simultaneously cultivating a passion for politics, which led him to hold important administrative positions at the municipal, provincial, and regional levels. His political career began in 1972, when he ran for city councilor. In the years that followed, his presence on the Marrubiu and provincial political scene consolidated. From 1983 to 1988, he served as Councilor for Culture, Sport, Entertainment, and Public Education for the Municipality of Marrubiu, a period during which he distinguished himself by supporting the community's cultural and sporting initiatives. Between 1997 and 2000, he served as Councilor for the XVI Comunità Montana Arci Grighine. In 2000, he was elected Provincial Councilor of Oristano for the Alleanza Nazionale group, a position he held until 2005, where he served as Chairman of the Budget Committee and as a member of the Programming Committee.
At the same time, from 1997 to 2001 he was a municipal councilor in Marrubiu, before taking on the role of mayor in 2001 , leading the center-right civic list Transparency and Participation . During his term, which lasted until 2006, Loi worked for the development of the territory, distinguishing himself by promoting the establishment of the MA.UR.A. Union of Municipalities (Marrubiu, Uras, San Nicolò d'Arcidano), of which he was president from 2001 to 2004. In the following years he continued to hold important positions: between 2009 and 2011 he was a councilor of the Administration of AnciI Sardegna, while from 2010 he returned to the benches of the Provincial Council of Oristano, with roles in the Culture and Productive Activities Commissions, as well as in the Assembly of the Union of Sardinian Provinces.
His long political career was characterized by passion, determination, and a spirit of service. As the mayor of Marrubiu, Luca Corrias, recalled, "The municipal administration joins in the grief of his sons Davide and Emiliano and all his family, remembering with deep gratitude Egidio's commitment, dedication, and constant attention to the common good."
Former mayor Andrea Santucciu also shared a personal memory, emphasizing how, despite often finding themselves on opposing political sides, respect and passion were never lacking: "I remember with regret and a bit of nostalgia those epic battles in the City Council, built on oratory and passion."
