Giuseppe Zedde, known by the name of Peppino, the 75-year-old pensioner who was crushed to death by a cow on his farm in the Illorai countryside , was a former traffic policeman.
He had served in the small municipality of Goceano for many years. Once he was discharged as a municipal employee, he had dedicated himself to the activity of rural guard, in addition to helping in the family business together with his only son of 32 years, also baptized with the name of Giuseppe like his father.
This morning, around 8:30, the pensioner had gone to his countryside, in the Berre Porcu area, on the outskirts of the town, to help his son load cows and calves for sale onto a van, when a cow threw him against a wall and a second one trampled him in front of his son. The man died instantly. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. The elderly man's body was transferred to the Nuoro hospital at the disposal of the Prosecutor's Office, which will decide whether to order an autopsy.
"Peppino was a kind and helpful person," recalls the mayor of Illorai, Gianluca Grande, "a generous man and a hard worker. On behalf of the entire municipal administration, I express my closeness to the family."
