Both lanes of the Consortium road in the Macchiareddu-Grogastu area are closed to traffic. Assemini Mayor Mario Puddu announced the news in a Facebook post: "The Consortium road is closed to traffic in the direction of Giorgino, from the Capoterra junction, and in the direction of Assemini/Uta, from the Tecnocasic."
The long artery, approximately 13 kilometers long and which connects Provincial Road 2 to State Road 195, is traveled daily, in both directions, by thousands of vehicles, mostly driven by commuters going to work in the Cacip industrial area.
The detachment of some concrete fragments from a bridge forced the firefighters to intervene promptly to maintain the safety of passers-by.
Firefighters used a crane to remove the damaged sections of the bridge, pending rapid repairs. Meanwhile, the road will remain closed until further notice.
