I didn't mean to hit him. This is how Fabio Malu, the 32-year-old from Luras accused of the murder of Davide Unida, which occurred in Luras in July 2023, defended himself today before the Assize Court of the Sassari Tribunal.

At this morning's hearing, Malu, answering questions from defense attorney Giampaolo Murrighile, clarified that he had no intention of attacking and therefore killing Unida. He explained that he struck him after grabbing a vacuum cleaner handle from a dumpster, out of fear because Unida was holding an axe. His intention was to approach Unida and clear up the argument that had occurred shortly before.

During the hearing, Malu apologized to Davide Unida's family and to her own for what happened. She then spoke about her relationship with the victim, a friendship that began when they were children but ended following a theft of money, according to her version, from Malu.

Malu is charged with voluntary homicide, according to prosecutor Alessandro Bosco, who charged him with hitting Unida several times in the head until he died.

Sergio Milia, the lawyer representing the victim's family, who is a civil plaintiff, was present in court today. The next hearing, for discussion and sentencing, is scheduled for July 7th.
