A large-scale law enforcement operation began at dawn this morning, around 6:30, in Siniscola, in the Nuoro area. Various vehicles and men were deployed in numerous parts of the town to carry out house searches and the execution of two precautionary measures , as part of an investigation into the serious episodes of violence and intimidation that have marked the area over the past year: over forty in just a few months, including bombs and cars set on fire. Dario Tuveri (37 years old) and Luca Venale (41) ended up in handcuffs.
Today's action was a coordinated one, the result of joint investigations between the police and the Carabinieri, with the aim of identifying those responsible for fueling a climate of terror in the local community. Explaining the details of the investigation, in the Prefecture in Nuoro, were the prefect Alessandra Nigro, the police commissioner Alfonso Polverino, the commander of the Carabinieri Gennaro Cassese, the commander of the Guardia di Finanza Alessandro Ferri , with those of the police station Gabriele Pacifico and of the Carabinieri company, Marco Caló. The investigations were coordinated by the acting prosecutor Andrea Jacopo Ghironi.
Tuveri and Venale were reached through old-style investigation techniques, with shadowing and stakeouts, but wiretaps were also used.
During the investigations, however, the investigators clashed with the reticence of some residents to hand over the images from the video surveillance systems: there was a strong fear of reprisals. The two, according to what was reconstructed, moved at night aboard cars of acquaintances or rented, to make any identification more difficult.
The motive for the long trail of fire is still being investigated, but the focus is on personal grudges: between December and January, a twenty-seven-year-old and his family were targeted with several fires.
In March, Tuveri and Venale planned a robbery at the Banco di Desio in Olbia: they had a Glock blank gun and balaclavas and were stopped in Budoni. The plan was to enter through the panic door and escape down a street in the wrong direction, hide in a construction site and hide the loot in the bag of a vacuum cleaner purchased for the purpose. With them were two other accomplices, who are under investigation.
