Sestu will have the Arst light rail. And there is also the expected completion date: December 31, 2027.

The fast connection between Cagliari and Sestu will be based on two sections.

  • The first, approximately 1.3 km long, from the via Caracalla stop, will concern part of the Monserrato area, and will join the existing viaduct of Line 3 San Gottardo-Policlinico at the Argine stop.
  • The second will then be about 4.8 km, from the Policlinico stop to Sestu. The double-track line will cross undeveloped land in the Selargius area between Monserrato and Sestu, and will have an intermediate stop in the "Ateneo" district, in Sestu, to end with the terminus stop in the sports area. There are three stops: the already existing "Caracalla" and "Policlinico", and the new one in the Ateneo district plus the terminus in Corso Italia.

The costs for the intervention, carried out with regional funds, amount to 41 million euros for the Sestu directing line, 23 million for the Caracalla - dell'Argine section, and 3 million for the Monserrato San Gottardo intermodal station, all with regional funds.

Satisfaction from the regional councilor Michele Cossa , who has been committed to this project for a long time: «The Sestu-Policlinico light rail line is strategic not only for Sestu but for the entire vast area of Cagliari. It will radically change citizens' mobility habits and will have a very strong positive impact both economically and environmentally,” he says. While the mayor of Sestu Paola Secci explains: «The Municipality has prepared the documents necessary for the planning and has coordinated with the general directorate for transport of the region and Arst. Since the state of planning is well advanced, we have obtained regional funding. A large interchange car park between Corso Italia and Via Dante will also be built with municipal funds.
