Four people have been arrested on charges of illicit drug cultivation : the orders were issued by the Tempio Pausania investigating judge at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, as part of an investigation that in recent months led the Carabinieri to discover a large cannabis plantation in the countryside of Loiri Porto San Paolo . The suspects were targeted by the orders in Loiri and several municipalities in the Nuoro area.
Following the military's discovery, the crop, located in a remote area, seized nearly 2,300 plants, arranged in 69 rows. According to investigations by the Cagliari RIS, these plants could have yielded over 133 kilos of "clean" product , with approximately 6.82 kilos of the active ingredient THC. Sold at retail, the "harvest" would have fetched around €1.2 million.
The plantation was anything but makeshift: it had a drip irrigation system, water tanks, electrical hookups, and an electric fence.
The military's investigation, conducted by combining witness statements, wiretaps, and technical investigations, allowed them to identify those responsible.
According to the investigating judge, the four men allegedly divided the tasks: one procured the seedlings, another provided the land and utilities, and another took care of the cultivation. They also attempted to provide legal cover for the business with a fictitious sublease agreement.
The arrests were carried out by the Carabinieri of Olbia, with the support of the Cacciatori Squadron and the stations of Nuoro, Bitti and Loiri Porto San Paolo.
