«On 2 June 1946 the Italian people were called, through a historic referendum, to choose the form of government for our country. The victory of the republican form was proclaimed between monarchy and republic . That day Italian women voted for the first time. 13 million went to the polls, one more than men. That day, Italian women were crucial to the birth of the Republic, which we celebrate today . I want to celebrate Republic Day with this memory and a consideration: when women are put in a position to express themselves, they can be decisive . Happy Republic Day."
This is the message posted on Facebook by the president of the Sardinia Region Alessandra Todde on the occasion of June 2nd, Republic Day. The governor participated in the solemn ceremony in Nuoro, but initiatives to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the birth of the Republic were organized in all the municipalities of the island.
In Cagliari the ceremony was held at the Bastione ( VIDEO ), where the Mameli Hymn sounded, in the presence of the civil and military authorities.
«Republic Day – said the President of the Regional Council Piero Comandini during his visit to the Prefecture on behalf of the assembly – must be a moment of reflection on peace and unity » and «it must represent the will of a new peace and the renewal of the spirit of brotherhood between peoples".
«This year the party - added Comandini - takes on a particular value. The international scenarios are worrying but I am convinced that thanks to dialogue and unity we will be able to overcome this moment too. We must work together to remove economic, political and social obstacles, to promote the full development of the person and the effective participation of citizens in institutional life . Peace, unity and cohesion between peoples are the foundations for our future and that of younger generations", concluded the president of the regional council.
