A special day to get together and discover interesting facts about the world of Jack Russells. The third themed gathering concluded in Dolianova, attracting enthusiasts from all over the island, along with their small animals.
"This year, we had 73 dogs participate out of over 80 registered," explains organizer Silvia Spiga . "Some female dogs couldn't compete because they were in heat, as required by the rules, but it was still a great success." In addition to the competitors, approximately two hundred people, including companions and onlookers, arrived at Villa Cecy—the dog training center run by trainer Giorgia Perna .
"There was also a man from Sassari who, along with his wife, wanted to attend the meeting because he's thinking about getting a Jack Russell. They came specifically to learn more about the breed: a truly kind gesture, which we were very pleased with," Silvia says. But it wasn't just Sassari: the whole of Sardinia was represented, with participants arriving from every corner of the island—from Olbia to Oristano, from Cagliari to the north.

The initiative was born three years ago from an idea by Silvia, who fell in love with the breed after getting her Sherlock. "Giorgia and I organized the first edition by launching the initiative in Facebook groups dedicated to Jack Russells in Sardinia." Since its launch, with 55 participants, the numbers have grown every year: 66 last year and 73 this year.

"More than a competition, it's a gathering," Silvia explains, "with parades, training demonstrations, and free practical trials like Agility, Rally-O, and Scent Game. The dogs are supervised by instructors and can try new activities, even without specific training."
"We created simple and safe courses, designed for everyone. The goal wasn't competition, but rather to provide a positive experience for both dog and owner," adds Silvia. Hosting the day again this year was Villa Cecy, a dog training center named after Giorgia's first Jack Russell. "Cecy was my first female," she explains. "I decided to name the center after her because she's been with me my whole life. We created a space designed for the dogs' well-being: fields, pens, shaded areas, and always-available water. A place where they can feel comfortable and socialize."
Local associations and sponsors also participate in the event every year. "It's a wonderful community moment," says Silvia. "People come from all over Sardinia, and the municipal administration is always there for us ." The Jack Russell gathering in Dolianova has become a regular event, celebrating the passion for dogs, the commitment to education, and the mutual respect between man and animal. "The message is simple: a dog is not an accessory, but a lifelong companion. And like any important relationship, it must be cultivated with time, dedication, and love," concludes Giorgia.
