The judge for the preliminary hearing of Sassari Paolo Piana has admitted the request for summons from the regional health department, the Ats and the Aou as civilian responsible, in the context of the legal matter linked to the 11 deaths and dozens of infections from Covid 19 which took place in March 2020 in the Cardiology department of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari.

A year ago the public prosecutor of Sassari Paolo Piras had solicited the trial of Fiorenzo Delogu, former coordinator of the local crisis unit of the socio-health area of Sassari and director of the Office of Hygiene and Public Health, Bruno Contu, former director sanitary of the Aou of Sassari, and Giorgio Steri, former extraordinary commissioner of the Ats Sardinia, all accused of culpable epidemic and manslaughter.

The civil parties, that is the families of the victims and two doctors of the Cardiology department who had contracted Covid in the workplace, asked for the summons of the councilor and the two health companies.

The next hearing will be held on 23 June.
