«That day, it was March 6, 2019 , I was at the sports field in the town but off duty. I noticed the pick-up from the municipal administration of Mamoiada arrive. At the helm was the mayor Luciano Barone . He maneuvered, stopped, got out, and seemed to be emptying something from the skip . I then spoke with the commander and we decided to start a business by also placing video cameras on those piles. Until the summer we resumed the sweeper that cleaned the spilled streets in that area, as well as the trucks of the Bassu company that worked on the reconstruction of the camp». To tell it before the judge of the Court of Nuoro, Francesco Filippo Orani, the marshal of the carabinieri at that time in service in Mamoiada, in the trial in which the mayor Luciano Barone is accused.

Those mounds of earth were the result of the renovation works of the Mamoiada sports facility, and street cleaning waste collected by the company sweeper on the streets of the town and then amassed. But there were also oils, "food" specified the Arpas technician Antioco Pili, called by the carabinieri to make an inspection to understand the danger, "oils that we have not analysed, but they were evidence of a favata" .

Barone responds to the illegal dumping hypothesis. Together with the mayor, also Francesco Bassu di Orgosolo, who allegedly worked as a worker on earthmoving machines in the construction site of the sports field, and an operator of the differentiated collection of Mamoiada, Roberto Canneddu, who drove the sweeper (defended by the lawyers Marco Basolu, Gianfranco Mureddu and Angelo Schirru from Cagliari).

"The affected area was about a thousand square meters large, adjacent to the sports field, but the barrier was open when we went to inspect the site" said the Arpas technician, Pili, answering the defenders' questions and adding: We had been asked for a sampling but we didn't do it.
