211,600 doses of the anti-Covid vaccine were administered in Sardinia in February, and the majority (156 thousand) were third doses, in addition to over 15,600 first doses and 40 thousand boosters.

Overall, since the beginning of the year, 663,500 doses have been administered, of which 515,954 booster doses and 65,000 first doses, while since the vaccination campaign began, a total of 3,697,000 doses have been injected on the island, numbers that put the Region among the first six for vaccination coverage.

Furthermore, since yesterday the administration of the fourth dose has begun to immunosuppressed subjects (about 28 thousand in the region), people who find themselves in this particular condition due to a disease or following specific treatments.

The first vaccinations with Novavax's new Nuvaxovid drug are also underway: out of 304 first doses administered between February 28 and yesterday, 17% were performed with the first protein subunit vaccine in circulation, a technology used for decades in the production of vaccines, now also available in Sardinia. Last Sunday the first 27,900 doses arrived and a further 57,300 are expected by the second half of March.

"The vaccination campaign on the island - says the president of the Region, Christian Solinas - is in step with the rest of the country with numbers that exceed the national average if you look at the overall vaccination coverage of the entire population. dose our hubs and vaccination centers continue to be at the forefront even in this phase, aimed at the most vulnerable whose protection against the virus has always been a priority ".

"Nuvaxovid - adds Mario Nieddu, regional health councilor - has several advantages, in particular linked to a less extreme cold chain than messenger RNA vaccines, an aspect that therefore makes it more manageable. The hope is that its use of a technology already known for some time can overcome the resistance of those who harbored skepticism towards the vaccines available so far. The vaccination campaign has already achieved excellent results, but the danger is not yet behind us and even one more vaccine represents a victory ".
