The "Summer Sailing Courses" for secondary school students born in 2007, 2008 and 2009 are also taking place this summer in La Maddalena, at the Navy Non-Commissioned Officers School.
50 of them arrived last July 9th, half girls and half boys, from all over Italy, guests of the island's training school, which made the facilities, vehicles and teachers available. The singular experience ends next Friday, July 19th, and from the 24th another 50 will arrive, equally distributed, until August 2nd.
The course includes a basic training component, according to the directives issued by the FIV (Italian Sailing Federation), with a total of 20 hours of theoretical lessons and a total of 36 hours of practical activity, which is carried out with the sailing vessels supplied to the school and in the stretch of sea between the islands of Maddalena and Santo Stefano, between Punta Chiara and the former Military Arsenal. Participation in the courses, which are accessed based on scholastic merit, is free, except for travel expenses.
In addition to the Non-Commissioned Officers School of La Maddalena, the "Summer Sailing Courses" are held at the Naval Academy of Livorno, the Non-Commissioned Officers School of Taranto and the F. Morosini Military Naval School of Venice, for a total of 350 students (100 of such as in La Maddalena).
