Yesterday's afternoon risked turning into tragedy in the Marina di Orosei , where a swimmer was taken ill while in the waters of Osala.
Nicolò Carta, a Folgore paratrooper originally from Bultei, who was on leave at the seaside resort, saved him from drowning . The soldier intervened immediately, diving into the sea after noticing the man in distress. He then dragged him to shore , where 118 emergency personnel quickly arrived to help.
Franco Mula, regional councilor for the Italian Democratic Party (FdI) and former mayor of Orosei, posted the news on his social media accounts: "The swimmer was dragged ashore by the soldier in rough seas and then rescued by 118 ambulances." He then added: "A heartfelt thank you from the entire Orosei community."
Dozens of comments praised the soldier, including those from the people of Orosei themselves and several fellow villagers from the town of Goceano.
The paratrooper's mother, Cristina Falchi, was thrilled and said she was "proud" of her son's gesture.
