It was a day of fires in Sardinia, with fires devastating hectares of land from north to south. A total of 35 blazes broke out across the island today, 12 of which required aerial intervention .
A large forest fire is still raging in the Esporlatu countryside. Two Canadair aircraft from Olbia, the Super Puma, and another regional aircraft from Anela were deployed to put it out . A large area of woodland, Mediterranean scrub, and wooded pastures were affected.
Three helicopters, including a Super Puma, and two Canadairs responded to the situation in Arborea near the 131 highway, where flames are ravaging hectares of Eucalyptus pini reforestation. In Uta, near the former Serra farm, two state helicopters (one from the Italian Air Force stationed in Decimomannu, the other from the Army stationed in Elmas) and one from the regional fleet responded . The flames are affecting agricultural areas and have threatened a reforestation project near the Pedemontana SP2 provincial road.
Other fires still need to be put out in Oristano, Torpè and Gergei (one helicopter intervened in the first two, two in the third).
Helicopters also intervened in the countryside of San Gavino (two aircraft were on site), Bortigali, Bono, Masullas, and Sinnai (where the flames broke out in two different locations). Agricultural areas, pastures, uncultivated fields, and eucalyptus groves were affected.
It should also be noted that clearing operations around the perimeter of yesterday's fire at the former Galoppatoio di Nurri resumed at dawn and continued until 2:00 PM. Helicopter support was also required here.
