This morning, clean-up operations resumed in the areas that were affected by fires yesterday afternoon, particularly the largest ones, such as Bonorva and Mores . During the night, incessant patrols from the Forestry Corps for environmental surveillance ensured the constant presence of volunteer teams, barracelli and Forestas workers along the entire perimeter. In the morning, a helicopter was sent to Bonorva from the Farcana-Nuoro base to keep the fires under control . This activity was made more complex by the considerable extension of the burned area, the jagged perimeter and the presence of numerous reforestations.
Over 600 hectares of countryside were destroyed by the huge fire that broke out yesterday afternoon at the gates of Bonorva and Mores . The flames devastated entire areas, threatening farms and wheat fields, with significant damage to farmers and ranchers , who were forced to shelter their livestock from the blaze.
The fire affected a large area of wooded pastures and uncultivated land. The Bonorva Forestry Corps coordinated the extinguishing operations, with the support of the Forestas teams. Two Canadair 16 and 20 took to the air in the extinguishing operations , working together with the men of the fire brigade, the barracelli and the civil protection volunteers.
The intervention of the Forestry Corps helicopter from the Farcana-Nuoro base was also necessary, and of the Canadair that arrived in the late afternoon from Ciampino. Throughout the night the barracelli and firefighters guarded the areas affected by the fires to control the possible rekindling of some outbreaks. Fires also broke out in Giave, Valledoria and on the border between Castelsardo and Badesi , where a field of round bales went up in smoke.
