Monday's twenty-year sentence for the murder of Luca Goddi marked a turning point in the proceedings, but in the last few hours the investigation has seen a new development: Pietro Contena has been arrested again. Yesterday, he was taken to Massama prison, where he is currently being held under a new pre-trial detention order. His son, Salvatore, was also arrested.
The Carabinieri operation in Orune began before dawn. A massive deployment of forces involved soldiers from the Nuoro Provincial Command, with the support of the "Cacciatori di Sardegna" helicopter squadron, the Olbia helicopter unit, and the Anti-Crime Squads unit.
The operation, coordinated by the Nuoro Public Prosecutor's Office, led to the execution of a precautionary detention order issued by the Nuoro investigating judge at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, following an investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Bitti Company. Investigators consider Pietro Contena to be the alleged leader of the group.
The charges, to varying degrees, include carrying and illegal possession of weapons, receiving stolen goods, and possession and trafficking of narcotics. During the searches , two rifles and two pistols with erased serial numbers were seized, along with ammunition, two meters of detonating cord, 340 grams of quarry explosives, and approximately 850 grams of marijuana.
Investigators believe the seized weapons may include the gun used in Goddi's murder, which has never been recovered. A third person, Andrea Chessa, 19, is under investigation but is at large.
