The call for tenders for the design and construction of works to speed up the San Gavino-Sassari-Olbia railway line with the Bauladu variant has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The intervention by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana is financed with 124 million euros from the Fund for development and cohesion (84 million for the tender for the executive design and works).

The Bauladu variant, 7 kilometers long, 3.3 of which in a tunnel, will be equipped with a new station and will allow for a reduction in journey times thanks also to the increase in the maximum speed to 160 kilometers per hour.
