There is an agreement between the Region and Federfarma for the administration of flu vaccines in pharmacies in Sardinia. With one goal: to reach 10,000 over 60s and vulnerable people in the island's inland areas in this campaign, to guarantee everyone the right to vaccination protection, even in contexts where there is no general practitioner coverage or where it is more complicated to access the clinics of the Hygiene and Public Health Service of the ASL.

The agreement was signed by the Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi and the President of Federfarma Sardegna Pierluigi Annis: "We have preliminarily allocated 65 thousand euros to focus the experimentation on a specific target of those entitled in the most internal areas of the island, often in the process of depopulation, but where the fundamental presence of pharmacies has never been lacking. We are sure that the project will have a good response and from there we could continue by expanding the objectives and resources starting next year", explained the representative of the Todde Council.

The agreement provides for the start of the experimental administration of influenza vaccines, within the 2024/2025 campaign, for citizens included in the categories identified by the Ministry of Health for the free offer of the vaccine, by pharmacists appropriately trained following the passing of a specific qualifying course and subsequent annual updates, organized by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

Participation in the vaccination campaign must be expressed by the owner of the pharmacy by sending the appropriate form to the Regional Health Authority, the Local Social Health Authority competent for the territory, the Order of Pharmacists and the Union of Pharmacists with Pharmacy (Federfarma Sardegna), which will send the list of pharmacies participating in the vaccination campaign to the General Directorate of Health on a weekly basis. The administration of vaccines will be carried out after verification of identity and presentation by the interested party of the Health Card or the STP/ENI code and after obtaining informed consent to health treatment and assessment of the suitability/unsuitability of the requesting subject to undergo vaccination.

With regard to the administration of the flu vaccination , the pharmacist will proceed with the vaccination of citizens included in the target population identified by the Ministry only if, in the anamnesis, the applicant declares or certifies previous flu vaccination. In the absence of documentation proving previous vaccination, the pharmacist will not proceed with the administration of the vaccine. The administration is performed on subjects aged 18 years or older. The administration of vaccine doses in the pharmacy to extremely fragile subjects or with a history of previous severe allergic/anaphylactic reaction is excluded.
Participating pharmacies must be equipped with the emergency supplies and medications needed for the safe administration of flu vaccines and for the person undergoing vaccination to remain and be monitored in the pharmacy, in a designated safety area, for 15 minutes after the vaccination.
The agreement is effective from the date of approval of the resolution by the Regional Council, which occurred today.
