Flames are burning in the Platamona Pond, in the countryside of Sorso. The fire broke out this morning in an area popular with runners. Forestry Corps personnel responded to the scene, supported by a helicopter from its operations base in Bosa.

The emergency operations are being coordinated by the DOS, director of firefighting operations, of the Sassari forestry station. Several Forestas teams and firefighters are working on the ground.

This is a Special Area of Conservation (ZSC) and a SIC (Site of Community Importance) for the "Platamona Pond and Juniper Grove," a particularly sensitive area from an environmental perspective. It boasts dense vegetation dominated by juniper, mastic, and buckthorn, along with reed beds and a pine forest planted in recent decades. The pond is home to a wide variety of aquatic animals and is an extremely important habitat for numerous bird species that nest there or stop there during migration.

Intervention from above was necessary, given the complex area, to guide operations from the ground.
