Hundreds of hectares of fodder, pastures and woods destroyed in a few hours. the estimate says 450. Over 300 dead sheep and tens of thousands of euros in damage to structures. According to Coldiretti, the counting of the damage suffered by the livestock farms in the Nuorese area, between Orotelli and Orani, has begun in the worst possible way, after the fire that struck between Sunday and Monday.
In particular, livestock farms, forests and olive groves are paying the price. Emblematic is the case of a forty-four-year-old farmer from Orotelli (the town most affected by the fires in the area) who, due to the fire, lost practically his entire flock of over 250 animals, the structures of his company and today continues the search for his horses escaped due to the flames. But it didn't fare any better for his other colleagues from neighboring companies who are currently carrying out surveys to understand the extent of the losses suffered.
«We are close to our companies and we are offering them all our support to be able to alleviate this moment of great difficulty», underlines the president of Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra, Leonardo Salis, «we thank all the police forces and the forces in the field between Protection civilians and local firefighters who have worked all these hours to stop the advance of the fires and contain the damage to our companies. Now we should check the damage and ensure that concrete support reaches our farmers and breeders who have suffered huge losses."
The director of Coldiretti Nuoro - Ogliastra, Alessandro Serra, is also on the same line: «Fires are a plague that must be stopped», he comments, «every year these events are repeated which devastate our territory and create incalculable damage to the companies that invest their life and lots of money to carry on their activities . This is the time to be close to our companies, and Coldiretti as always and on the front line, but then an intervention from the institutions will be necessary to support businesses".
