Fights and threats: Fear returns to Via San Donato, in the historic center of Sassari . Residents were awakened at 4 a.m. this morning by a violent altercation between immigrants and Sassari residents, punctuated by bottle throwing and illegal gunfire .

The confrontation lasted for over an hour, so much so that the State Police were called, and patrol cars arrived around 6:00 a.m. but no arrests were made. The atmosphere in the area has become tense again following the police raid last May and subsequent interventions by the Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, and local police.

Among the many episodes of escalating tension, there's a recent one involving threats directed at a resident. After complaining about a non-EU neighbor's loud music, the man was violently attacked. "When I left the house," he reported, " she spat at me, telling me to be careful, both me and my family." The threats were followed by explicit statements. "She told me to sell the house and that she'd already bought hers. As if to say we'd never get rid of them again." A hellish situation, with residents once again trapped in their own homes, afraid even to look out. "Everything's going back to the way it was before. What should we do?"
