Eight-hour strike on Friday and demonstration under the headquarters of Confindustria, in Viale Colombo in Cagliari at 10 am. This is what the world of industrial work has defined, which is also mobilizing in Sardinia for the renewal of the contract that expired in June 2024. It is part of a series of strike days at a national level, defined by Fiom Cgil, Fim Cisl and Uilm Uil from 10 to 21 February, strengthened by the block on overtime: «More wages and less precariousness, health and safety, innovation in working hours with 35 hours and the need to reconcile life and work», the demands of the industrialists.
The reasons are linked to the unavailability of Federmeccanica and Assistal to renew the contract "opposing the unions' proposals supported by the vote of the metalworkers with an unacceptable counter platform". The protest on the island will involve over 6,000 workers, who are part of the million and a half in all of Italy : "A tide that moves together", the warning from the regional secretaries of Fiom, Fsm and Uil Roberto Forresu, Marco Angioni and Alessandro Andreatta, "and it will not stop until it has achieved the result, the conquest of conditions of equity and dignity in work".
The goal is to put industrial work back at the center and invest in the new generations. " The renewal of the contract is even more important in a regional context of crisis ," the regional secretaries point out, "in which second-level bargaining is widespread only in a few realities while in all the others, the majority, the increase in income essential to cope with inflation is linked exclusively to that renewal. Crisis situations put at risk the weakest link in the production chain, namely the many processes carried out under contract."
Overall, these are production realities that can and must face the current phase of change - due to the transitions and evolution of production processes, due to the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence - as an opportunity for growth and certainly not as a step backwards with respect to working conditions, employment levels and the prospects of a sector that is crucial for the social and economic development of Sardinia and the entire country.
"It is no coincidence," conclude Forresu, Angioni and Andreatta, "that innovation, equity and cohesion are the key words that hold together the demands of the platform, which looks ahead trying to meet the challenges: the point is whether Federmeccanica and Assistal are ready to face those challenges, whether they are capable of looking ahead ."
