Eurallumina workers arrived in Rome to hold a sit-in demonstration in front of the Mimit plant during today's meeting on the future of the Portovesme plant.
After the sensational protest with workers barricaded at a height of forty meters for thirteen days, the day of the long-awaited meeting has arrived.
Workers and unions are demanding the release of the funding needed to keep the plant running or, as a permanent solution, the lifting of the financial sanctions imposed on Rusal (the Russian owner of Eurallumina) after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
"The sanctions," recalls Enrico Pulisci, one of the workers who organized the silo protest, "were imposed only on our plant here in Italy, while Sweden, Germany, and Ireland did not apply similar sanctions to Rusal's other European plants."
