A memorandum of understanding between the Sardinian Carabinieri and Abbanoa. This morning at the Sardinian Carabinieri Legion Command the agreement was signed, lasting two years, within the framework of the forms of inter-institutional collaboration in the field of security: it provides that the two entities mutually commit to the conservation and defense of the environment, according to models of participatory security, to address the complex problems regarding the protection of the territory of Sardinia, due to the widespread capillarity on the territory of the Island of the Carabinieri garrisons and the Abbanoa structures.

The two entities have committed to:

- organize events for sharing experiences and best practices, with particular reference to environmental issues, also with the contribution of the Special Departments of the Carabinieri;

- implement initiatives for the dissemination of the culture of legality and the defense of water and environmental heritage, aimed primarily at schools, with the aim of raising awareness among young people on the issues of environmental sustainability;

- carry out information activities, aimed at investigating aspects related to vandalism, to situations of environmental degradation that are dangerous for hygiene and public health and the protection of critical infrastructures;

- collaborate in the training and professional development activities of personnel assigned to surveillance services on sites owned by Abbanoa;

- support study and research activities on topics of common interest.

The agreement also provides that the Carabinieri will intensify their surveillance of water systems and related sites , while Abbanoa will guarantee a timely exchange of information on situations of environmental interest, reporting any critical issues also in relation to the abandonment of waste or other forms of pollution.

The protocol, at the end of the two years, may be extended or updated also to achieve objectives other than the current ones . The signing was attended by the Commander of the Carabinieri Legion of Sardinia, Gen. B. Stefano Iasson, and the Provincial Commander of Cagliari, Gen. B. Luigi Grasso, the president of Abbanoa, Dr. Giuseppe Sardu, and the Board of Directors, lawyer Annamaria Busia and Dr. Cristiano Camilleri.

On this occasion, President Sardu highlighted that «Abbanoa has in common with the Carabinieri the widespread presence in the territory that allows a very precise knowledge of the problems, especially regarding environmental issues. The signing of the protocol is the formal start of a collaboration that has already had important moments both regarding the water emergency in Nuoro and for the surveillance of the plants . We are convinced that the protection of water will find even more strength and effectiveness in the relationship with the Carabinieri».

Gen. B. Stefano Iasson declared that «a synergic relationship of collaboration has been sealed with the Sardinian water resources management company due to the common objective of environmental protection that will involve first and foremost the Carabinieri stations present in almost all the municipalities of the Island as well as the special departments of the Arma and the Forestry Departments, which have always been on the front line in the defense of the territory».
