Environmental disaster in Piscinas. Since yesterday the jewel beach of the Costa Verde, in the Arbus area, has been invaded by a red river: this is because the Rio Irvi, which flows into that stretch of sea, has brought with it the residues of the processing of the mines which have been abandoned for 40 years now. years and never reclaimed. The worst possible news both on an environmental level and on the eve of the tourist season on the Green Coast. Experts are working to understand how all this could have happened and to find remedies.

Because that reddish stream has always been there. And since "always", that is, since the mines no longer work, it has been pouring its waste into the water. But in the last few hours the phenomenon has become impressive. And worrying. Because the color is determined by the presence of heavy metals. Highly polluting.

Rio Irvi can also be seen from satellite. A dark red wound, squeezed between the mountains, which widens when it reaches the coast, to the west, among the gigantic dunes of Piscinas. Up to the sea, which was once considered good for swallowing everything. Even the poisons from the Montevecchio mines. Never mind, there's work: that's what we thought. Now the tunnels are boarded up, closed since 1991. The occupation is no longer there. The waste of decades of underground processing remains: a contamination distributed over 50 square kilometers, which dirty the wild territory of Arbus.
