« Investing and, above all, believing in research is strategic and every effort must be made to ensure that field studies speak more and more Italian . It is with this spirit that the Ministry of University and Research has launched a decidedly ambitious project : to bring the Einstein Telescope to Italy, in the Sos Enattos mine in Lula in the province of Nuoro ».

Thus the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini , in an intervention in the Sole 24 Ore in which she returns to support the project in Sardinia.

The MUR, therefore, will set up a support committee for the Italian candidacy chaired by Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi , «who with great willingness and generosity – explains Bernini – agreed to promote a project in which we strongly believe».

«The Einstein Telescope - continues the Minister - is the new large research infrastructure for the study of gravitational waves , an idea born in Italy on a European push. It will allow us to observe, with unprecedented precision, the entire universe through gravitational waves which, thanks to the Virgo (Pisa) and LIGO (USA) detectors have already revolutionized the international scientific landscape".

“The project has extraordinary potential – adds the minister -. It will lead to developments in many sectors, including precision mechanics, metallurgy, seismic sensors, optics, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies. It is an extraordinary opportunity for Sardinia and for all of Italy . A project that we can and must bring to our country ».

The committee that will be chaired by Parisi will be responsible for " ensuring the institutional and financial prospects of the project , with the maximum support of the Italian government, and for promoting the choice of Lula's site at an international level, in close connection with the diplomatic network".

THE TRADE UNIONS – «We hope that the Support Committee for the candidacy of Sos Enattos that the Ministry of University and Research is preparing to set up will see the presence of Sardinian labor and business organizations , as well as scientific expertise and institutional levels involved» the words arrived during the day on the subject by the regional secretary of the CGIL, Fausto Durante . "In fact, I imagine - adds the secretary - that the minister is referring to the support of all of Sardinia, of the regional administration, of the province and of the municipalities concerned, of the economic and social forces, of the civil society of the island".

In this sense, the minister's appeal "must be decidedly accepted: the project needs everyone's collaboration , it is a precondition for the success of the enterprise", continues the union leader. And the request for involvement goes precisely in this direction: "It would be the best way to respond united to the complexity of the challenge that the Einstein Telescope represents, given that the Committee should also deal with issues relating to infrastructure, employment, training professional, to the role of companies".

In this regard, CGIL Sardinia confirms its already declared willingness to contribute - in the most appropriate forms and methods - to the process of building the alliance necessary to achieve the result of having the telescope at Sos Enattos. "In the regional Congress which will take place on 30 and 31 January, as well as in the initiatives that will follow, we will reaffirm this commitment", assures the secretary general.
