Unfortunately, his umpteenth outing in search of firewood proved fatal. Domusnovas mourns Guido Pintus , a 78-year-old bricklayer who hadn't returned home yesterday evening after his usual excursion to the countryside in the town he loved so much. After a search of about an hour, he was found by his nephew Emiliano and some acquaintances who yesterday, around 20.15, had raised the alarm, not seeing him return at dusk as he usually did.

The 78-year-old had reached the mountain resort of Perd and Cerbu by car, where he was later found slumped, probably due to illness.

Those looking for him then alerted the carabinieri of the local station who then called in a coroner who ascertained the man's death of natural causes.

The funeral will be held on Monday 26 December, at 3.30 pm, in Domusnovas but the coffin will then be cremated in Olbia on Wednesday 28. Unmarried, in August 2015 the 78-year-old had tragically lost his only brother Attilio, hit by a car during an excursion by bike on the state road 126, in the hamlet of Bindua, at the gates of Iglesias.

«I'm very sorry, - says the former mayor and now minority councilor Massimo Ventura - it is an unexpected tragedy that affects everyone. Guido was a great lover of the countryside, an easy-going person known by everyone in Domusnovas. We'll miss him".
