The body of Mauro Abis, the sixty-year-old from Sardara who had been missing since yesterday evening after a paragliding launch , has been identified : search teams located him, lifeless, on a ridge halfway between Capo Pecora and Scivu.
The worst outcome therefore for the operations that were conducted with a massive deployment of forces: at work since Wednesday afternoon were the technicians of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Sardinia, a helicopter of the Decimomannu Air Force, the Coast Guard, the Guardia di Finanza and the Fire Brigade, who guarded the area all night by activating an advanced command post with a UCL (Local Command Unit) vehicle and specialized personnel.
Abis was with a friend. They both jumped to admire the breathtaking view. The second one immediately realized that the weather conditions were not favorable and managed to go back, only to realize that the sixty-year-old was not behind him. Around 6:30 PM he raised the alarm.
The search was immediate and continued through the night, and then intensified at dawn. Around 11:30 the paragliding wing and the body of Mauro Abis were found – recovered with the help of a firefighters' helicopter – who died during a flight that was his passion.
