Removing the obligation to wear a mask on airplanes - a provision that will come into force in the European Union on Monday - is a freedom that many do not like. Because it suggests a lowering of the guard towards the coronavirus which, however, is still very present and remains an emergency.

The numbers make us reflect, for example as regards Sardinia. In the last 24 hours there have been another 7 deaths and 1,272 new positives , but the pressure on hospitals is decreasing. According to Ferdinando Coghe , health director of the University Hospital of Cagliari-Monserrato and of the Analysis Laboratory, the fact that the number of victims is still on the rise would be a fact linked exclusively to a normal statistical trend, also considering the fact that they are people of a certain age, who had other pathologies and who had been immunized against Covid-19 only in part. While as regards the decrease in the number of hospitalized patients , the explanation must be sought in the fact that with the Alpha and Delta variant the positivity remained on average two months, with Omicron about 25-30 days. Vaccines obviously have a great weight, which allow protection from infection and avoid serious consequences.

The warning remains to continue using precautions and therefore masks.
