«Highlighting a laudable sense of duty, high professionalism and strong investigative acumen , they carried out complex investigative activities which allowed, after 33 years, the acquittal of a man unjustly convicted of triple murder».
This is the text of the commendation delivered to six carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Cagliari today, during the ceremony for the 210th anniversary of the Foundation of the Force.
The military worked on the case of Beniamino Zuncheddu , the 59-year-old former pastor acquitted on 27 January by the judges of the Court of Appeal of Cagliari and released after having spent 33 years in prison as an innocent man because he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the Sinnai massacre, which in 1991 caused three deaths and one injury.
Thanks to the investigation conducted by the six soldiers, at the end of the review process Zuncheddu was acquitted.
