Collapses and debris: State Road 195 shattered by the force of the storm surge.
Extensive damage on the road between Cagliari and Capoterra: collapses in numerous placesThe violent storm surge unleashed by Cyclone Harry has caused extensive damage to State Road 195, the Sulcitana road that connects Cagliari to the western side of the Golfo degli Angeli.
The roadway collapsed in some places under the force of the water, which submerged Giorgino beach. The asphalt was torn , and some safety barriers were washed away by the fury of the sea.
Where the road withstood the impact, it is covered by a layer of oceanic posidonia.
But cleanliness will be the least of the problems: the latest storm has further highlighted the inadequacy of this essential link to southern Sardinia.
The road has been constantly monitored by Anas workers following the closure between the Scafa bridge and kilometer 11. But now the engineers will have to assess the damage.
It also needs to be established when the road can reopen to traffic.
Anas's indications for alternative routes
"Traffic," according to a statement from Anas, "can use an alternative route along State Road 130 to the junction for Provincial Road 2. From there, continue along the Macchiareddu consortium road and local roads to reach Provincial Road 91." But this description is too simplistic: the "local roads" are completely unmarked, and in recent days, hundreds of drivers have been forced to take detours before finding the right road, often at random. Given the emergency situation, immediate action is needed.
