«For over a month Coldiretti Sardinia has urged with various interlocutions, also in the appropriate institutional bodies, the need to resubmit the exemption which allows the use of tattoos to identify sheep and goats, in addition to the electronic ruminal bolus (first necessary means according the rules). Without the exemption, farmers will be forced to reuse the tags which have already presented many problems in the past, particularly for the animals themselves ." Thus the president of Coldiretti Sardinia, Battista Cualbu.

«We learned that yesterday there was a meeting with the Ministry of Health and the Department of Agriculture during which they were asked to review this system in the direction desired by us farmers. Let's not lose hope but", adds Cualbu, "we ask for speed and concreteness".

« We believe that the application of the tattoo with the relative identification code for each individual animal is the best method not only because it is safer for the animals, avoiding the loss of the tags which very often cause damage and injuries during grazing , but also because it responds better to the work needs of Sardinian breeding companies", highlights the director of Coldiretti Sardinia, Luca Saba . «Tattooing is a well-established and safe system and therefore we reiterate the need for intervention in this sense».
