More than a thousand euros paid by an 86-year-old tourist from Milan for 4 kilos of cheese and sausage from a street vendor in Buddusò , the woman's complaint and the initiative of the Municipality which, together with the vendors, collected exactly 1,155 euros , the amount paid by the tourist to return it to him with many apologies.
In the past few hours, therefore, it was the mayor Massimo Sanna who contacted the elderly tourist, who however accepted the apology but not the compensation. «She told me to donate it to charity», the mayor said as specified by the press agencies. «Our community is alien to these phenomena - he commented -. It is frustrating to see an entire community judged and condemned for the actions of a few individuals. Episodes of this kind damage the reputation of all of us. Sardinia is a land of hard-working and honest people, we do not accept similar behavior. I personally contacted the lady concerned to offer my apologies and those of the community, and she kindly asked to donate the amount collected to charity. This is the true face of Buddusò: honesty, industriousness, solidarity towards others and the desire to redeem an entire community of hard workers».
The elderly, visually impaired tourist, a few days ago on the beach of Porto Istana, in Gallura, had bought 4 kilos of cheese and a sausage from a street vendor, paying with a credit card . Only after the purchase, reading the receipt from the POS, did she realize that she had left 1,155 euros in the merchant's cash register. Truly too much, even for products that the street vendor, tracked down a few days later, had described as "niche" to try to justify himself.
The woman and a family member then went to the Guardia di Finanza to report what had happened because the street vendor had not issued a receipt, so they reported the matter to the Buddusò Carabinieri.
The amount collected by the Buddusò community, following the tourist's wish, was donated to charity to the parish.
