It hadn't happened yet, but now even Sardinia can boast two "Plastic Free" municipalities. These are Castelsardo and Elmas , which have complied with the five criteria necessary to obtain recognition: the fight against illegal abandonment, awareness of the territory, the management of urban waste, the performance of virtuous activities of the institution and the collaboration with Plastic Free onlus, a voluntary association committed since 2019 to combating plastic pollution.
Only 68 "virtuous" Italian municipalities , compared to 360 candidates: they will be awarded during a ceremony that will take place on 11 March at Palazzo Re Enzo in Bologna.
«In this second edition», declared the president of Plastic Free Luca De Gaetano , «we celebrate the commitment to the environment and to future generations of as many as 68 municipal realities. Rewarding those who are concretely at the forefront of creating a better world has become one of the priorities for our non-profit organization. I thank the Sardinian administrations for the importance of their commitment to the environment which we have certified after careful analysis».
