The possibility of seeing Sant'Efisio enter Capoterra again on May 1st after twenty-five years will remain a dream: the proposal put forward by the Municipality was not accepted by the archconfraternity of Cagliari, which did not allow the diversion in the town center so as not to lengthen the travel time towards Sarroch. With the Su Loi area closed for the works intended to give a new face to the coastal strip, the municipal administration attempted in the meetings attended by all the actors involved in the organization of the 369th edition of the feast of Sant'Efisio to give the faithful the opportunity to welcome the Warrior Martyr in the heart of Capoterra.
The desire of the people of Capoterra, however, clashed with the rigid requirements of respecting the schedule: the longest Christian procession in the world will indeed stop in Capoterra, but - as usual - in the coastal part . The mayor, Beniamino Garau, explains the plan studied by the municipal administration in view of the arrival of the saint: «We would have liked in the Jubilee year, as had happened during the previous one, to welcome Sant'Efisio, our patron, in the church consecrated to him, even the parish priest of Capoterra, Don Gianni Locci, and of Frutti d'Oro, Don Battista Melis, agreed, but unfortunately our proposal was not accepted».
"This year , the space in front of the little church of Su Loi, where the Integrated Urban Plan is being worked on, will not be accessible for reasons of safety and decorum ," Garau reports. "There will therefore only be a quick blessing before the journey continues towards Villa d'Orri. The mass will be celebrated outdoors at Maddalena beach, where we are preparing to welcome the many faithful and tourists who will arrive in the wake of Sant'Efisio: parking will not be a problem, we will set up parking areas at the Residenza del Sole that will allow us to easily manage the large amount of traffic expected for the day."
Nicola Boero, president of the confraternity of Sant'Efisio of Capoterra, admits that it would have been nice to welcome the Warrior Martyr in the heart of the town after twenty-five years, but he understands the position of the archconfraternity of Cagliari: «The procession must respect certain times, the proposal of the municipal administration was suggestive, but the journey to the place of the martyrdom does not allow delays. We are certain that the celebrations in Maddalena will still be well attended: next year Sant'Efisio will stop again in Su Loi in an even more beautiful setting ».
