Alarm on the afternoon of Tuesday 3 June aboard a cruise ship sailing from Palermo to Ibiza . A 60-year-old passenger, of Spanish nationality, suffered an illness due to a serious heart attack.

The emergency was launched around 13:00, while the ship was about 20 miles southwest of Capo Teulada. The alarm was immediately raised in the Coast Guard operations room which, having assessed with the International Radio Medical Center the need for immediate assistance, ordered that the man be rescued and taken from the ship by an AW139 helicopter from the Coast Guard Helicopter Section of Decimomannu.

The helicopter, having reached the ship, picked up the passenger, a family member and a doctor who provided intensive care during the transfer flight, using a winch and with the assistance of a Coast Guard air rescuer .

The helicopter subsequently landed at Brotzu, where the passenger was handed over to the hospital doctors for the necessary treatment.
