Cagliari's San Benedetto market gutted: "The city council is delaying its reopening by a year."
Farris (CiviCa24): "The new timetable calls for a 2028 return. Zedda assured us that everything would be ready by 2027. Not only that, the project should already be 80% complete, but that's obviously not the case."What remains of the historic San Benedetto market (L'Unione Sarda)

Upon seeing the construction site, some doubts arose about the timeline. Now, the Single Programming Document (DUP), currently before the City Council, has dispelled these doubts and confirmed the possibility of a delay in the construction of the San Benedetto market in Cagliari.
Opposition councilor Giuseppe Farris focuses on the ongoing project: "The document is crystal clear," he states, "80% of the work is scheduled for completion in 2026, followed by completion and testing in 2027, and restart in 2028, with a call for tenders and new permits."
According to the CiviCa24 representative, " just walking past the construction site is enough to understand that 80% of the work will never be completed by December ," but above all, "it is clear that the opening has been postponed by a year."
The temporary market in Piazzetta Nazzari was due to open in March 2025. At that time, Farris recalls, "the mayor said the new market would reopen after two years, in spring 2027."
Mayor Massimo Zedda himself, "who during his election campaign, when criticizing Truzzu's management of the construction sites, assured that his administration would have clear timetables and transparency for the citizens."
A look also at the Cuore market, which takes place on Sundays in the car parks of the old Sant'Elia which should be occupied by the (probable?) construction site for the new stadium: on this front, according to Farris,
We're really shrouded in mystery. The market, as we know, needs to be relocated. The new site was supposed to be identified in 2026. The update, however, states that this year we can settle for identifying "potentially usable areas" and, for 2027, "conversations with neighboring administrations."
