During the holidays and, in particular, in view of New Year's Eve, there is an invitation to caution from the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda. He does not prohibit firecrackers, but underlines: «Safety is the first thing that matters», he explains, and then adds: «I invite citizens to celebrate the new year with mutual respect. Protecting other people and animals is a priority, for this reason I urge not to use firecrackers and fireworks that could cause a risk and danger for everyone».

The mayor refers to the Security and Urban Police regulations for what is and is not allowed.

The text states that "in order to safeguard public safety and urban security , the use of explosive and pyrotechnic materials, even if approved, is prohibited in the presence of people and animals, as well as at a distance of less than 200 meters from clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, condominium areas, public and private places open to the public, sites of community interest, natural areas and protected oases, gardens, green and public spaces intended for pets".
