When he saw a woman in difficulty, attacked by a foreign citizen in Piazza Matteotti in Cagliari , he did not hesitate for an instant: he intervened to remove the young man and then defended himself from the intervention of another man armed with a knife . A chief brigadier, free from duty, thus foiled a robbery and then had a 34-year-old Algerian arrested for resistance and aggravated threats .
It happened on Easter Monday evening . According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri of the mobile radio unit of the company and of the Villanova station, who intervened to help their colleague, an Algerian mayor approached a woman in Piazza Matteotti. He threatened her, probably to rob her, and she screamed. A policeman, free from duty at the time and out walking with his family, heard the calls for help. He reached the attacker, tackling him. At that point a second man intervened, and there was a brief scuffle. While the first foreign citizen walked away, the other threatened the policeman who in the meantime had notified his operations center .
According to the accusations, the 34-year-old Algerian at that point headed towards Piazza del Carmine, always followed by the soldier and at a certain point he pulled out a knife, attempting to hit the soldier who dodged the blows. A few moments later the police patrols arrived and blocked the 34-year-old.
Upon order of the prosecutor on duty, the arrest was ordered, then validated yesterday morning in the direct trial. For the victim, in shock, an Easter Monday evening to forget.
