The carabinieri were alerted by a citizen's call to 112, who reported two people who were suspiciously wandering around the parked cars. A patrol quickly arrived on the scene and caught the two red-handed while they were forcing open the cash register to steal the money.

The men, a 41-year-old and a 48-year-old resident of Cagliari and already known to the police, were taken to the barracks and subsequently placed under house arrest , pending the validation hearing. The crowbar was seized.
