The Local Police task force against waste abandonment returns to Cagliari: the operational unit has been active since December 1st.

The initiative, the Municipality explains, "responds to the growing need to intensify surveillance and control activities on the correct disposal and management of waste in the city, with the aim of combating the phenomenon of abandonment which still represents one of the most significant problems in the municipal territory".

The Urban Hygiene Section "has the task of monitoring, controlling and sanctioning behaviors that do not comply with the provisions of the law and the regulations on waste management, and will do so through investigation and sanctioning activities, reporting to the judicial authorities the cases provided for by the legislation in force".

With this new structure, the municipal administration intends to give a strong signal against waste abandonment, "which continues to have a direct impact on the quality of life of citizens and on the image of the city itself, affecting the decorum and cleanliness of the municipal territory".

The new section is composed of an official and 9 Local Police instructors, and has a staff mainly dedicated to waste abandonment.

"The restoration of the Urban Hygiene section after 3 years", explains Mayor Massimo Zedda, "is part of the interventions that will allow a presence in the streets, constant monitoring and the issuing of fines for those who abandon waste. A clean and decent city determines a saving of public resources and lower expenses for everyone, it also allows for a positive image for citizens, businesses, commercial activities and tourists. The section that will operate on the entire city territory will be based in Pirri, a response in terms of presence, together with the station hosted at the former distillery, in the context of our Municipality".
