Another green light, the last before the decisive vote. The council resolution confirms the public interest in the new stadium and grants Cagliari Calcio the right to use the site for the entire duration of the concession, finally bringing the project one step closer to completion.
On Thursday, the City Council will put the final seal on the most significant urban planning project of the last fifty years. And while the finish line appears close, the political controversy remains.
"We're almost there," says Sports Councilor Giuseppe Macciotta. "I'm confident the Council will approve the resolution. Next Friday, we'll present Cagliari's bid for the European Championships. We'll then publish the tender, and construction can begin by March 2027. We have no certainty that Cagliari will be chosen, but adhering to UEFA's timetable has boosted the momentum toward the new stadium," he adds.
"The proposed resolution represents a step forward," begins Giuseppe Farris of CiviCa 2024, "however, significant issues remain on the table."
