Cagliari, rivers of drugs arriving every day: "A worrying phenomenon". Summit at the Prefecture

Drugs. Rivers of drugs arrive in Cagliari every day. And despite the large seizures, but also the small findings on the individual consumer, the doses of the various substances in circulation are always higher, including synthetic ones and psychotropic drugs used as drugs for getting high . And the consumers are often young, even minors.
This was also discussed in the provincial committee for public order and safety convened this morning at the prefecture. Around the table, together with the prefect of Cagliari, Giuseppe Castaldo, the mayor of the capital Massimo Zedda, the deputy mayor Maria Cristina Mancini, the director of the Cagliari Local Police, the police commissioner of Cagliari and the provincial commanders of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza: on the agenda were the recent bloody events that occurred in the city (with assaults and the nightlife in the historic districts).
"The latest events have demonstrated the response capacity of the police, which I thank: the perpetrators of the crimes have all been identified", Castaldo underlined. "The phenomenon of drug dealing and consumption is worrying. We will try to intervene with the tools at our disposal, in close collaboration with the Municipality". On the services front, checks will be intensified by the Police, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza in the areas most at risk with all forces, including the Municipal Police, under the coordination of Police Commissioner Rosanna Lavezzaro. Furthermore, the urban security pact with the Municipality has been renewed to strengthen video surveillance systems. The municipal administration will instead launch a series of cultural initiatives "because", as the prefect explained, "prevention is also done through the use of public places for events and appointments open to citizens to reclaim the spaces of the city and discourage criminal activities".
Therefore, not only the activity carried out on the field by the police forces is necessary, but also social and cultural initiatives. "We thank the prefect and the police forces because they will strengthen the services also in relation to the summer season and the increase in tourist presence", highlighted the mayor Massimo Zedda. "We, as a Municipality, will participate with the Local Police. And we will guard the places with entertainment initiatives but also cultural and sports. The squares must not be left unattended. Then there is another aspect: often behind the small drug seizures on young people and children there are hidden situations of social emergency and degradation. Therefore, social intervention is needed and not only repressive intervention".
